Kansas House Okays Random Drug Testing for Cash Assistance Recipients Leave a reply Kansas is taking the route of other states like Texas, West Virginia and Florida by lobbying for the imposition of random drug testing for people who are seeking assistance from the state. It does not, however, include the Grandparents-as-caregivers program, which provides cash assistance to low-income grandparents who serve as primary caregivers to their young grandchildren. The Kansas House voted in favor of the proposal, 99-26, passing the bill on to the Senate for consideration. This includes child care assistance and temporary assistance for families.

After three failed tests, however, the recipient will no longer be eligible for cash assistance. Recipients who test positive will be provided with treatment for their addiction. Other supporters contend further that this bill will ensure that Kansas tax dollars are not wasted on supporting. Kasha Dall reveals that her primary motivation is the treatment of addicts, singling out the bill € provision that it is only if an addict repeatedly fails to get clean that the benefits will stop.

Each state has its own unique terms for the conduct of random testing, and for Kansas, the testing is to be administered to citizens who are receiving cash assistance from the state.
